MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Welsh Rugby League 2010

Just to keep you up to date for the forthcoming season. There have been a couple of changes to the leagues within WRL set up for the forthcoming season. Also Blackwood Bulldogs are in the Carnegie cup draw which will be made on Saturday the 12th of December.

This is how the WRL anticipate the league will run for next season;-

Conference League 2010 – Two Tier League system.

1. Tier One – RLC Premier, six teams playing ten rounds, playing each team home & away. The top four from this league will go into the play-offs and the winners will go into the semi finals of the UK competition. There will be ten league fixtures with fixed dates, two points for a win and 1 point for a draw.

The six teams in the premier league will be – Blackwood Bulldogs, Valley Cougars, Newport Titans, Cardiff Demons, West Wales Sharks and Bridgend Blue Bulls.

2. Tier Two – RLC Regional, 6 to 8 teams playing ten to fourteen rounds, playing each team home & away. Top four in play-offs and the winners go into the quarter finals of the UK competition. The teams concerned are, - Torfaen Tigers, NPT Steelers, Wild Boars, Ammanford, Maesteg and Monmouth. It will follow a merit table format, 4 points for a win, 2 for a draw, 1 for a loss, 1 bonus point for playing an away fixture and 1 bonus point for travelling over 60 miles. Teams will loose points for cancelling games and clubs must have played 5 games to qualify for play-offs.

Promotion and relegation should be earned but decided upon at the end of each season, for example, if a team does not feel ready to be promoted this can be delayed, and winning the regional level gives the club the right to apply but not guaranteed promotion.

3. The reason for this is that clubs are developing at different rates and will allow strong teams to play in a strong competition.

4. Developing clubs to play in a developing flexible competition and Wales will have two clubs going forward into a national competition.

Any player wishing to play Rugby League in the winter for ‘South Wales Thunderers’ please contact Mark Jones at Cymrurl.

For those who are not aware Wales won the European competition this year.

CRB – Checks, this was clarified at this meeting, that any person who wishes to coach/referee, or other wise be engaged with the youth set up, or players under 18, must have a CRB check – through the R.L. channels. If you already have a CRB, WRU or employment etc, I am afraid it does not count and a separate WRL MUST be applied for.

Regards

Chair – Blackwood Bulldogs.

Andrew Smith
